Understanding the Addiction

Merriam-Webster’s definition of “addiction” – compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance (as heroin, nicotine, or alcohol) characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal. We hear the word addiction everyday. It affects our friends, family, and coworkers. The most common form of addiction lies within nicotine and cigarettes. At NYCATS we look externally to research and studies to better understand the field of addiction treatment and recovery. This forum is a great resource by Dr. Judson Brewer over at the Huffington Post that examines nicotine and cigarette addiction in relation to kicking the habit.
