Substance Abuse Among our Baby Boomers

Retirement is often painted with palm trees, exquisite meals, big smiles, and fine living. To some, this is the american dream. Work hard and then play hard. This is the light at the end of the tunnel as some may say. However, recent studies in the field of substance abuse have shed a bit of light on the reality of recreation consumption amongst retirees and specifically within the baby boomer generation. Studies note that a portion of these baby boomers consume more and more alcohol and prescription drugs to regulate their physical, mental, and emotion problems. As these problems evolve, they often transpire into larger problems of dependency and substance abuse. The research and statistics are shocking as younger generations have been a stable subject in the field of addiction.
